2D barcode and Data Matrix
DataMatrix
is a two-dimensional barcode which can store from 1 to about
2,000 characters. The symbol is square and can range from
25 microns per side up to 30 cm per side. As an example
of density, 500 numeric only characters can be encoded in
a 25mm square. DataMatrix is being used to encode product
and serial number information on electrical rating plates;
to mark of surgical instruments in Japan; to identify lenses,
circuit boards, and other items during manufacturing.
DataMatrix symbols
require a 2-D scanner. they cannot be read using an ordinary
linear barcode scanner. A number of scanners are on the
market using both laser and CCD camera technologies. DataMatrix
symbols can be printed by thermal transfer label printer,
laser printer, mechanical punch and laser marking. |

- Draw the square with round spot size, resolution
is limited.
- Need smaller spot to increase resolution, cost is
higher and speed is slower.
- The square area is unsteady, cause decoding issue.

Thus we can hit each single square at a time, instead
of drawing.
- Symbol size can be up to hundreds microns, depending
on laser power. And down to several tens microns, depending
on materials.
- Redistributed energy provides a uniform mark and highest
contrast quality.
- Combined with gavonometer unit, this product could
provide ultra high marking speed. Typically 3-5 times
or higher than traditional way, depending on applications.
- Just simply replace an optical element, the laser type
could change to CO2, Nd:YAG, Green, or UV. That provides
a great flexibility and versatility for future requirement.
